Product Description HP Pavilion DV2615US 141-inch Entertainment Laptop Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5250 1 GB RAM 160 GB Hard Drive Vista Premium
Amazon.com Product Description Built for today's multimedia-savvy, always on-the-go computer user, the entertainment-centric HP Pavilion dv2620us notebook PC provides quick access to your digital audio and video library wherever you roam. Weighing in at 5.4 pounds, it travels easily and it provides a cool, modern look with a high-gloss durable finish and inlaid design inspired by Zen rock gardens as well as touch-sensitive media controls. Latch-free, the mechanical closure, unique speaker grill pattern, and color-saturated LED indicator lights further enhance this sophisticated design. It offers a widescreen, BrightView 14.1-inch display, which provides improved viewing in direct sunlight. Control settings for audio and video playback from up to 10 feet away with the included HP remote, then store it conveniently in the PC card slot. Enjoy movies or music in seconds with the external DVD or music buttons to launch HP QuickPlay (which bypasses the boot process). p Optimized for mobile performance, it's powered by the 1.9 GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-58 dual-core processor, which offers 64-bit computing capability and higher throughput for simultaneous computing tasks. Other features include a extra-large 250 GB hard drive, 2 GB of installed RAM (4 GB maximum), 54g Wi-Fi LAN (802.11b/g), multi-format/dual-layer LightScribe DVD drive (which can also burn CDs), NVidia GeForce Go 7150 video card with up to 559 MB of shared video memory, Bluetooth connectivity, multi-format memory card reader, and integrated Webcam for easy video conferencing. p It comes preinstalled with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium, which includes all of the Windows Media Center capabilities for turning your PC into an all-in-one home entertainment center. In addition to easily playing your DVD movies and managing your digital audio library, you'll be able to record and watch your favorite TV shows (even HDTV). Vista also integrates new search tools throughout the operating system, includes new parental control features, and offers new tools that can warn you of impending hardware failures. p bThe Basics/bbr ul liiProcessor:/i The 1.9 GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-58 processor offers a dual-core architecture, which delivers additional computing resources to help expand your PC's capabilities by providing higher throughput and simultaneous computing--increasing your performance by up to 80 percent. You'll be able to perform multiple tasks such as digital rendering and gaming all while running virus scan or other background tasks seamlessly thanks to the innovative Direct Connect Architecture. And it's designed to handle simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing with no degradation in performance. You'll enjoy long battery life thanks to the AMD PowerNow! power management technology, which delivers performance on demand and can extend system battery life up to 65 percent. And the AMD Digital Media XPress technology delivers stellar multimedia performance and playback on digital entertainment such as games, streaming video and audio, DVDs, and music. p Each processing core has a 512 KB L2 cache (for a 1 MB total), and this processor can deliver up to a 1600 MHz system bus for lightning quick computing reflexes. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.) pliiHard Drive:/i The 250 GB Serial ATA hard drive is more than double the average size for notebook PCs, and it offers a fasts 5400 RPM disk speed--an improvement over other notebooks with extra-large hard drives. It provides more than enough capacity for storing documents, digital media files, and video editing software. This SATA hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to FireWire and USB 2.0. pliiMemory:/i The 2 GB of installed RAM (2 x 1024 MB DDR2) will satisfy many users, but this notebook's two DIMM slots have a maximum 4 GB RAM capacity--perfect for high-end video editing and 3-D gaming. The additional capacity helps boost the amount of available video RAM that's shared with this notebook's video card. pliiDVD/CD Drive:/i This multiformat DVD/CD drive is compatible with writing both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can store up to 8.5 GB of data. It features 4x DVD-R DL Write Once, 2.4x DVD+R DL Write Once, 8x DVD+R, 4x DVD+RW, 8x DVD-R, 4x DVD-RW, 16x DVD-ROM, 40x CD-R, 24x CD-RW, and 40x CD-ROM speeds. p This LightScribe DVD+/-RW drive lets you laser-etch silkscreen quality text and images on to CDs and DVDs . Your software, PC and discs work together for a no-hassle way to burn just the labels you want. After you burn content, just flip the disc over, reinsert and burn your label--anything from a simple title to a full-disc work of art. pliiKeyboard Mouse:/i This notebook has a 101-key keyboard and a touchpad with on/off button and dedicated vertical/horizontal Scroll Up/Down pad. It also includes two quick-launch buttons (HP QuickPlay Music and DVD). /ul bScreen, Video Audio/bbr While this notebook is actually as wide as standard 15-inch displays, the high-definition, widescreen 14.1-inch display (1280 x 800-pixel resolution) has the same form factor as a 12-inch screen--taking up less space on your desk. Video is powered by the integrated NVidia GeForce Go 7150 graphics/video card, which provides up to 559 MB of video memory shared with the system memory. It features NVidia's PureVideo technology--which provides great picture clarity, smooth video, accurate color, and precise image scaling for video content--and full support for Microsoft DirectX 9.0 for stunningly realistic cinematic effects for all DirectX-compatible applications. p The Altec Lansing speakers provide exceptional sound, and a pair of stereo earbud headphones with volume controls is included. You'll be able to privately share enjoyment of multimedia with a friend via the dual headphone jacks. p bNetworking, Connectivity Expansion/bbr This notebook has an integrated 54g wireless LAN that's fully compatible with 802.11b/g wireless networks. With the Bluetooth connectivity, you can communicate and synchronize with Bluetooth-enabled peripherals such as PDAs and cell phones. It also includes a next-generation ExpressCard 54/34 card slot (replacing the PCMCIA slot), which lets you take advantage of thinner, faster, and lighter expansion cards for even more advanced wireless, networking, storage, and security features. You get a very good offering of connectivity options, which includes both super-fast USB 2.0 and FireWire: ul li3 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players li1 FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link) port for connecting digital video camcorders and other peripherals li1 VGA monitor port li1 S-Video port for connecting to a TV li1 ExpressCard/54 slot (also supports ExpressCard/34) li2 headphone jacks li1 microphone jack li1 Expansion Port 3 connector (for use with the HP xb3000 Expansion Base or the HP Notebook QuickDock) li1 IR receiver li5-in-1 memory card reader (Secure Digital, MultiMedia, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, xD Picture Card) /ul It also has an integrated 56K modem (V.90) and an RJ-45 LAN network port (for a 10/100 Ethernet connection to networks and DSL/cable modems). p bOperating System/bbr Windows Vista Home Premium is the operating system for users with advanced computer needs, and it includes all of the Windows Media Center capabilities for turning your PC into an all-in-one home entertainment center for watching DVD movies and accessing your digital audio library. HP SUCKS June 21, 2010 Matt G. (Albuquerque) I bought this computer a few years back after having a Compaq laptop for a couple of years that worked great and never gave me problems. I thought, Compaq is made by HP, so an HP computer must be even better! Boy, was I wrong.
br /
br /The laptop came equipped with so much bloatware that it took more than 5 minutes to power on and even when I removed everything the best I could ever do was 3 minutes, and it was something I had to constantly maintain.
br /
br /Other problems, which all progressively got worse (coincidentally, all of the problems seemed to arise just after my one-year warranty ran out):
br /
br /1. It overheats when watching video or doing anything even moderately taxing. I couldn't even watch a DVD from beginning to end without having to stop to let the thing cool off.
br /2. The battery is weak and I had to have it replaced when it completely stopped working.
br /3. I went through three different chargers (and HP chargers do not come cheap).
br /4. My audio output disappeared, which I spent months trying to fix. The only solution was to get a new motherboard when it would be more cost-effective to buy a new computer.
br /5. My DVD drive stopped working. First, the drive disappeared from My Computer, and finally it just stopped opening except by using a paperclip.
br /6. A couple of the keys fell off.
br /
br /Finally, a couple of days ago, the thing just wouldn't turn on. I believe that the motherboard finally crashed and I put the thing out of its misery. I'm currently in the process of looking for a new computer. I know they're more expensive, but my wife has had her current Mac for more than a year longer than I had my HP, and she's had ZERO problems with it. I know they cost more, but they just work better and don't require so much maintenance. I'm SO done with both HP and Windows.
HP Pavilion dv2620us, not what cracked up to be August 10, 2009 Byrdznest (memphis, tn) I bought my HP Pavilion about a year and a half ago. My wonderful Toshiba had finally died and I read all the reviews and took all the "which laptop is right for me?" quizes and decided this laptop had it all for such a great price...PPHHHOOOEEYYY. This laptop has 2 design flaws, The plug in cord is next to the disc drive so that unless you turn your computer a certain way, every time you open the disc drive or close it, your electrical cord is in the way. That is not nearly so annoying as the little slidy sensor on the right of the mouse pad. It senses the heat or light change from your hand hovering over as you type and jumps the mouse to different positions on the page. This is VERY frustrating, especially if you have typed quite a bit before checking your work. You can disable the mouse while typing, but then when you DO want to move your cursor, you have to turn it back on.The battery has never lasted more than 1.5 hours and now lasts 5 minutes. Since circuit city went under, I am supposed to MAIL it in and wait 4-6 weeks for my replacement. Also, I do not like VISTA at all, it is annoying, non-compaptible and difficult to work with. Another problem with this computer is that I have to reset the dispay settings every day...Today I did what I never thought I would do, I bought a MAC...will let you all know, but i have always "been a PC" uptil now.
Dont buy it! April 2, 2009 Edwin A. Belen (From Puerto Rico to California) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is what i encountered. I bought it in a store not amazon. First the wireless modem stopped working. Then the whole thing just stopped working. The store sent it to HP and they replaced it in a week or so. So I was like ok (probably bc I was paying it on credit, with insurance on it). The new one that I have is very slow, dunno why, cleaned it, anti virus, spyware, spyware, registry, scandisk, defrag, everything done and still. And the mouse just goes crazy all over the place. Another thing it just overheats alot! My wife has a Dell and I call it "Rambo" its being thru some much stuff, its missing chunks of it, even went on a deployment to Iraq and is still good! No more HP for me (dissapointed, I thought HP was the top of the line)
HP lost my business forever December 10, 2008 Lauren Gale (No Left Turn, NJ) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have to say, it was really a combination of HP and Vista that did it. But this past week, my laptop adapter started smoking and caught fire. Yes...it actually caught fire. Thank goodness I was home, because I might not have had a home to come back to. So I call HP with my tale of woe, like...for the typical American, this is lawsuit territory, and I'm told I'll be overnighted an adapter. The next day it doesn't come, so I call back to ask WTF, since I have no way of charging a laptop I need to use. I'm then told they don't overnight parts, that it hasn't even been shipped out. OK, so now I have no way to use my laptop since the battery is completely dead. Having owned an IBM, this is completely absurd, since IBM went out of their way to get parts next day.
br /
br /Now, for why the thing caught fire...the power plug is located on the right side of the computer. The geniuses at HP give you a straight adapter, which means if your power source is on the left side of your laptop, the cord will constantly be bent. Straight adapters are supposed to be used when the power plug is located on the back of a laptop. L adapters are more suitable for side plugs. I was told they'd be shipping out an L adapter to prevent this from occurring again..lie #2. At this point, I'm completely disgusted with their customer service.
br /
br /Also, I've also had a problem with the mouse pad. The mouse seems to do whatever it wants...there's no way you could do precision work on this laptop, because the mouse jumps and clicks whatever it feels like. After several driver updates, it still didn't fix itself, so I have to send it in to HP.
br /
br /All in all, this laptop experience has been a miserable one for me. My last HP was great, which is why I bought another but I think now I'll take the plunge into Apple for my next laptop.
Great laptop! September 7, 2008 D. Brown (apo, ae United States) I have had this laptop now for almost a year. I haven't had any of the major issues that others are complaining about. I have had a few minor issues though like the touchpad issue. I used the touchpad when I first received the laptop, but I hate touchpads anyways because I'm too heavy handed and I always end up clicking things that I don't intend to so I just turned it off and bought a wireless mouse.
br /
br /I also don't like the fact that the battery connector is on the same side that I have to use my mouse on because it is an annoyance as pointed out by another reviewer. I would upgrade the battery also.
br /
br /The laptop does get EXTREMELY hot though. I haven't had any issues related to it yet, but it scares me how hot it gets!
br /
br /I have absolutely no problems with the wireless card. My laptop is NEVER disconnected from the internet unless I disconnect.
br /
br /I love the memory card slot on the side which means I don't have to carry around any extra USB cords for my digital camera.
br /
br /The webcam is great. I had some problems with the pc not being able to find it a few times when I first got the laptop and it took a few reboots to get it to recognize the thing. After some driver updates, it works fine now and the quality is excellent.
br /
br /This laptop is loaded with great features and products. The only thing that I recommend would be to DEFINITELY upgrade your memory. After almost a year using this laptop, I am finally going to give in and upgrade as the pc is not running as fast as it did when I first got it, but I think that is due to me loading all of my crap on the laptop that runs 24/7/365!
br /
br /All in all, great pc for the price I paid. It's so lightweight and I take it everywhere I go! I haven't come across any issues to make me want to downgrade the rating, so I have to give it 5 stars based off my experiences with it.
