buy another brand July 2, 2010 pumpernickel (Virginia, US) I have an Inspiron 1526 that I bought two years ago. Recently, I've had to purchase a new hard drive ($150), a new battery, and I also bought a new AC adaptor. None of these purchases has resolved the problems with my computer, and I now have essentially a very expensive desktop computer (the battery won't charge because according to a technician the system board is bad--a new system board costs $350). What I want is a laptop, not a desktop. I do not plan to purchase a Dell product ever again. Complete piece of junk. Even from the beginning, there have been problems with it.
Broken hinge after 6 months, motherboard failure after one year, and that's not the worst part... June 27, 2010 L. Cape (Louisville, KY) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
the worst part is when i contacted dell, they had me purchase a "end of life" warrranty before they'd "fix" my computer. when the computer was sent back, it FROZE WITH EVERY USE. And it would not unfreeze. Sometimes it happened after an hour, somtimes in less than 5 minutes, but it can't be used without freezing. When I called Dell again, i spent 4 HOURS on the phone with them and having them "run tests" (how do you run a legit test over the phone?!? come on now) and asking me to take the back off the computer. I told them it kept freezing, and it even froze in Safe mode. When i asked for it to be returned and fixed, they said it WASN'T COVERED UNDER THE 200 DOLLAR WARRANTY I JUST PURCHASED! That my problem was software related and software wasn't covered!!!
br /
br /Not only was i under the impression that the "end of life" warranty covered all inner parts of the computer (including SOFTWARE), they still to this day have refused to fix the computer. I still have it, and use it for however much time it allows me before it freezes. I don't have the ability to purchase a new computer just yet, but i can tell you this, i am NEVER purchasing a DELL or anything associated with Dell again!!!
Mediocre Laptop... Performs well when not needing repair September 13, 2009 D. Noll (PA, USA) I purchased the Dell 1526 from Best Buy and was quite happy for the first few months. The 1526 had great performance, snappy with Vista, and really nice display. Then the hard drive went bad and had to replace it. I thought okay, things happen, no biggie. Then a few months later my LCD screen goes black. It would only stay on if I had the brightness on the monitor turned down to almost nothing. If the brightness was increased all the way the screen would go black.

br /I think I have it narrowed down to the LCD screen inverter which I ordered on eBay for 16.30 including shipping. So hopefully that fixes the problem and the laptop will be fine from here on out.

br /Other then the above problems, the 1526 is a good performer.
Please don't buy this for any one you care about............. April 20, 2009 Joanne Stein 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My 11 year old son purchased this laptop 11 1/2 months ago with his own money. Three weeks ago the hard drive failed suddenly. The hinge on the left side of the machine was also failing, so I contacted Dell. The hard drive is a self install and I was sent a postage paid box to send the laptop to Texas for the hinge repair. Dell contacts me the following week to inform me they WILL NOT cover the hinge because the unit has been "abused". This laptop has NEVER been dropped, thrown, etc. They want to charge me $120 for the hinge repair which will not happen.. When you complain online or via telephone you will NEVER speak with a english speaking tech unless you buy an extended warranty in which case that will entitle you to speak with someone in the good old USA. If you like throwing your money away and being frustrated, please purchase this laptop!
Buy a Mac! March 5, 2009 C. Gobrecht 2 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is a horrible computer. I bought it, and after 3 weeks it crashed. I sent it back to the factory, and 8 months later it crashed again. Finally sick of dealing with all the crap, I bought a Mac. Yes, I know they are slightly more expensive, but well worth it.
