I have owned this computer for three months and it has performed very well. Including on our recent three and half week trip to Israel. On our trip I used the computer to connect to the internet for e-mail, make hotel reservations, make Skype calls, download photos (RAW) and develop the photos using Adobe Lightroom 3 and Adobe PSE 7. The computer performed all of these tasks quickly and flawlessly. Screen resolution was fine for photo editing and photo display. With the 500 GB HD I was able to download all of the RAW format photos (2960 photos at 10MB each). The speakers, microphone and web cam worked well with Skype. I was worried about how well it would stand up to our trip but it did very well without so much as a hiccup.

br /Battery life is shorter than I would like (about 2 hrs and 50 min) but I often used the power cord so that was not a problem. The power supply is also dual voltage so I only needed an adapter plug for the 220 V in Israel. I also found the mouse pad a pain to use at times but I got somewhat used to it. Windows 7 is much better than Vista. I do wish it came with a Windows 7 disk and not just the recovery disk which I had to make.

br /For the price (I paid $599; Amazon) and the power of the laptop, I would recommend this computer.
Works Great August 4, 2010

This is the 4th Acer laptop we've bought over the years, and have found the quality generally good. Only 1 (a netbook) had a bad battery. We bought an HP laptop with similar spec recently but I returned it to Costco. Definitely prefer the Acer (faster, better price).

We were happy for first 2 days. However, afer we upgrade the graphic card driver sw, the laptop will not start up. We contacted Acer tech support and tried various methods to no avail. There is no other way to boot the laptop.
br /While we like the feature of this laptop, we are really disappointed that it wouldn't start even we followed the exact instruction from Acer. We had to return the laptop.

Initally attracted to the Core i5 processor and the 4 gigs of RAM, I was pleasantly surprised with the discounted price at the time. As a somewhat serious computer user - student, small business owner, amateur photographer - I needed something that was affordable, relatively fast, and superbly reliable. Acer has absolutely come through with this one. The only real complaint I have is that the track pad lacks clear definition, so accidental cursor misplacement is common during the acquaintance phase of owning a new machine. Otherwise, I have no complaints. Intel has done an excellent job with their Core series processors, and Acer's fabrication leaves little to complain about. An excellent (and hearty - it has stood up to quite a bit of abuse already in the short time I've owned it,) laptop, suitable for just about anyone who is looking for quality within a budget. Easy to use out of the box, but also easily customizable for those of us who are a bit more discriminating in how we want things to work.
