After doing some research on product reliability as well as studying customer and tech reviews, I felt like this was the laptop for me. Fast processor, good amount of RAM, and plenty of hard drive space were the features I was looking for in a moderately priced laptop. Basically the most bang for my buck. But most of all reliability. I don't want to have to replace my laptop after 2 or 3 years. Heck, I'm still using my antiquated, 8-year old SONY desktop. And I hate having to send anything back for warranty work or spending time on the phone with tech support. So far this laptop has lived up to my expectations; no problems. It even has a 1 year replacement warranty if you drop it or spill something on it. I'm clumsy. I use it for work running some complex emergency response programs and for play. Mostly browsing the internet doing product research for potential purchases, e-mail, and watching movies. I don't have to have blu-ray on my laptop to enjoy a movie on it. It comes with some fancy audio system that doesn't seem to produce a better sound than any other laptop, but I always use a set of basic headphones anyways. It also comes with an alternate fast boot for quick surfing of the internet, skype, and access to photos and music without entering the Windows operating system. As far as gaming, I'm not much of one, but I've been meaning to do some so I like the fact that it comes with the NVidia graphics card for when I do. All in all it's a perfect laptop for me. The only reason I give it four stars is the battery life. It has to be fully charged in order for me to watch a movie without having to plug it in. Hopefully, ASUS will offer a longer lasting battery for these models. But seeing how this is my first laptop I don't know if that is typical battery performance compared to other notebooks. Good Buy.

This is a great laptop. Big enough serve in place of a desktop, small enough to tote around. Great features and functions, not much bloatware to remove. Great value.

OK, so I bought my laptop through Amazon's warehouse deals and was excited to get a laptop with so many features at a good price. For the price you have to admit you're getting a lot, the i5 processor is what sold me, and the graphics card was a definite plus. All that said, I've had my share of issues with this laptop since purchasing it. Once the laptop arrived I was so excited, I got it out of the box and had to start messing with it. After about 30 minutes I was pulled away to have dinner, and when I got done I went to mess around with the laptop and that's when the trouble began.

br /The infamous "blue screen" shocked me since it was a new laptop, and I figured, ok, let's restart and hope for the best. After restarting, using the laptop for 5-10 minutes and getting another blue screen a total of 7 times (I know I'm a sucker for punishment) I decided I needed to get professional help. After calling the ASUS tech support (which isn't an easy task) I finally was told to send the laptop in for maintenance.

br /After waiting 2 weeks to get my new (ish?) laptop back I was excited again and luckily everything has been ok since, but the initial problems have left me a little gun-shy. I'm no IT professional or Computer Science major or anything like that, but when I read the maintenance notes that they left with my laptop that said they had to replace the motherboard, it seems like their quality control could use some work.

I bought this laptop due to the USB 3.0 port, the eSATA port, and the nice video card. Although the battery does not seem to last as long as claimed by ASUS, the performance is excellent! I use it to power my VMWare Workstation images that I use for developing software. The i5 seems to run virtual machines much quicker than my old Core 2 Duo.

I did a lot of research looking for a good deal on a quality laptop. My search finally ended with the ASUS N61JV-X2. I ordered this computer back in April 2010 and have been very happy ever since. It does almost everything you'd want at a descent price. You get the Intel I5-430 CPU(2.26 GHz with Turbo Boost up to 2.53 GHz), 500GB 7,200RPM hard drive, 4GB DDR3 memory NVIDIA GeForce GT 325M with 1GB.
br /The first thing I did was uninstall all the bloat ware. The included support disk actually has a program that will remove programs that were pre-installed. I just love the NVIDIA Optimus Technology. This feature will adjust the video settings so you can play games at top performance and then switch back to normal video settings when you're browsing the web, checking email or writing a Word document. Games like Call of Duty Modern Warfare, Splinter Cell run great on this laptop. I wouldn't recommend playing games with the battery since it typically lasts about 2 1/2 hours. Games will just quickly drain out the battery.

br /I would definitely recommend this laptop to anyone who wants the best of both worlds (gaming casual user).
