Amazon.com Product Description Updated with Intel's Core i5 processor and next-generation NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M graphics, the 15-inch Apple MacBook Pro is faster than ever and will keep you working longer away from power cords with an enhanced battery life of up to 9 hours of battery life. As with previous models, the new MacBook Pro features a precision unibody enclosure crafted from a single block of aluminum, creating a thin and light mobile computing workhorse (less than 1 inch thin and just 5.6 pounds) that's also highly durable. And it includes a 15.4-inch, LED-backlit glass display (instead of an LCD panel) as well as a glass trackpad that doesn't include a button (for larger tracking area) that features Apple's Multi-Touch technology. p table cellpadding="0" width="100%" tbody tr td valign="top" table align="right" cellpadding="10" width="450" tbody tr tdimg align="top" border="0" height="246" src="http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/electronics/detail-page/apple-mbp2010-15-hero-sm.jpg" width="450" /br /br /smallemstrongThe 15-inch unibody MacBook Pro (see larger image)./strong/em/small/td /tr tr tdimg align="top" border="0" height="315" src="http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/electronics/detail-page/apple-mbp2010-15-keyboard-sm.jpg" width="450" /br /br /smallemstrongNow faster than ever with a Core i5 processor, NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M graphics, and automatic graphics switching (see larger image)./strong/em/small/td /tr /tbody /table The MacBook Pro also offers excellent graphics flexibility with two video processors--the discrete NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M processor (with 256 MB of GDDR3 video memory) for heavier workloads and an integrated Intel HD Graphics processor for better battery life on the go. And you don't have to sacrifice efficiency for speed: The NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M is up to 30 percent more energy efficient than its predecessor. For even greater power savings, the MacBook Pro also includes integrated Intel HD Graphics. pAlso new is the MacBook Pro's breakthrough automatic graphics switching technology, enabling you to switch graphics processors on the fly to give you performance when you need it (when you're playing the latest 3D game, for example) and better battery efficiency when you don't (such as when you're reading email). Whether you're using applications like Aperture, Motion, or Final Cut Pro or just surfing the web, your MacBook Pro always knows which processor to use. You don't have to log out, shut down, or change your preferences. table align="right" cellpadding="10" width="250" tbody tr tdimg align="top" border="0" height="225" src="http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/electronics/detail-page/apple-mbp2010-unibodyenclosure.jpg" width="250" /br /br /smallemstrongThe beginning of every MacBook Pro--a precisely machined, single block of aluminum./strong/em/small/td /tr /tbody /table /p p/p h3Unibody Design/h3 Traditionally, notebooks are made from multiple parts. With the MacBook Pro all of those parts with just one part--the breakthrough unibody enclosure. Every MacBook Pro starts its life as a single block of aluminum, which is precisely machined into the basic unibody design. Another pass and the unibody takes shape. Another, and the integrated keyboard emerges. When you pick up a new MacBook Pro, you immediately notice the entire enclosure is thinner and lighter. And it feels strong and durable--perfect for life inside (and outside) your briefcase or backpack. p/p h3LED-Backlit Display/h3 LCD displays typically use cold cathode fluorescent lamps, or CCFLs, to create light and project a picture onto a screen, and this creates two problems--the lamps require more space and they take more time to warm up to full brightness. The MacBook Pro uses LED backlight technology to create the same amount of brightness in less space. And unlike fluorescent lamps, an LED backlight reaches maximum brightness instantly. Finally, a new, smaller iSight camera is concealed behind the display for quick access to video chats and snapping pics for uploading to social networks. p table align="left" cellpadding="10" width="400" tbody tr tdimg align="top" border="0" height="188" src="http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/electronics/detail-page/apple-mbp2010-trackpad.jpg" width="400" /br /br /smallemstrongThe entire trackpad is the button, so you can click anywhere./strong/em/small/td /tr /tbody /table Additionally, conventional CCFL displays use mercury to create a backlight and arsenic to prevent irregularities in the glass. The LED-backlit display on the MacBook Pro, on the other hand, is both mercury- and arsenic-free. LED backlight technology also conserves energy: This display requires up to 30 percent less power than a CCFL display./p p/p h3Buttonless Multi-Touch Trackpad/h3 With no button on the durable glass trackpad, there's more room to track and click--left, right, center, and everywhere in between. Without a separate button, the spacious trackpad gives your hands plenty of room to move on the large, silky glass surface. It also incorporates Multi-Touch gestures--including swipe, pinch, rotate, and four-finger swipe--and even more natural inertial scrolling--an intuitive way to scroll through large photo libraries, lengthy documents and long web sites. If you're coming from a right-click world, you can right-click with two fingers or configure a right-click area on the trackpad. table align="right" cellpadding="10" width="150" tbody tr tdimg align="top" border="0" height="160" src="http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/electronics/detail-page/apple-mbp2010-batteryrecharges.jpg" width="150" //td /tr /tbody /table p/p h3Long-Lasting Battery/h3 The new energy-efficient architecture in every MacBook Pro, along with automatic graphics switching, gives you dramatically longer battery life. On a single charge, the battery in the new 15-inch MacBook Pro lasts up to 8 to 9 hours. And you'll get up to 1000 full charge and discharge cycles--that's nearly three times the lifespan of typical notebook batteries. Advanced chemistry and Adaptive Charging allow the battery to maintain charging capabilities longer and determine the optimal way to charge the battery's cells. Because the battery lasts up to five years, MacBook Pro uses just one battery in the same time a typical notebook uses three. That makes for less waste. And that, in turn, makes for one environmentally friendly battery. p/p h3Environmental Considerations/h3 table align="right" cellpadding="10" width="380" tbody tr tdimg align="top" border="0" height="273" src="http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/electronics/detail-page/apple-mbp2010-enviroreport.jpg" width="380" //td /tr /tbody /table Apple has worked hard to eliminate many of the toxins that are a common part of computer manufacturing. Apple engineers removed the majority of brominated flame retardants (BFRs) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) from circuit boards, internal cables, connectors, insulators, adhesives, and more in the MacBook Pro. pBecause Apple makes both the hardware and the software for the MacBook, they're designed to work together to produce a smarter product that uses less electricity. For instance, to reduce energy consumption, the hard drive spins down automatically when inactive. MacBook Air also decides which processor--CPU or GPU--is best suited to efficiently perform a task. The LED-backlit display in the MacBook Pro is another feature that plays an important part in conserving energy, consuming 30 percent less power than conventional LCD displays. And the display is designed to dim when you enter a darkened room./p pThe MacBook Pro meets the stringent low power requirements set by the EPA, giving it ENERGY STAR qualification. ENERGY STAR 5.0 sets significantly higher efficiency limits for power supplies and aggressive limits for the computer's typical annual power consumption./p pAlso, every MacBook Pro model has earned the highest rating of EPEAT Gold. The Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool, or EPEAT, evaluates the environmental impact of a product based on how recyclable it is, how much energy it uses, and how it's designed and manufactured./p p/p h3Pre-Loaded with Mac OS X Snow Leopard and iLife '09/h3 table cellpadding="0" width="100%" tbody tr td align="center" valign="top" width="420"img align="top" border="0" height="322" src="http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/electronics/detail-page/apple-mac-feature-snowleopard.jpg" width="350" //td td valign="top"Every Mac comes with Mac OS X Snow Leopard, the world's most advanced operating system, and iLife, Apple's innovative suite of applications for managing photos, making movies and creating and learning to play music. Superb laptop! 100/100 July 15, 2010 M. Smith (Pinetown, South Africa) 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
This particular MBP is excellent. I use a Quadcore PC for graphic intensive work and picked up one of these to help with development work - webpages and research. This laptop blows away my Windows Quadcore, totally! It is so speedy. Startup in about 30 seconds, shutdown in 2-4 seconds, resume from sleep in 0-2 seconds. Applications open in seconds and there are no lags, hiccups or awkward moments when you wonder whether your computer is out for tea. OS X is solid with lots of innovations such as quicklook which save heaps of time. PDF files can be viewed instantly. Images can be multi-selected and viewed swiftly or in slideshow mode. Wonderful zooming. With Windows laptops a wireless mouse is an absolute must. I bought a Logitech desktop set in anticipation for using with the MBP, but I use the touchpad 90% of the time. It's so useable and responsive. The screen is gorgeous - yummy good. I like how the Mac OS is so simple and easy to use, plus there are some really good freeware apps to improve things.

br /There's no reason to buy a Windows laptop when Macs are this good.
br /Can't recommend this one enough. In terms of heat, I use my own workaround just in case even though I haven't noticed it get hot at all. I chopped up an eraser into 1 cm segments and have placed one at each corner. This 1 cm gap ensures the laptop keeps cool, plus the rubber eraser won't let the laptop slip from side to side. I was going to buy a Rain MBP stand but the erasers seem to do the trick.
br /I don't play games on my MBP. Laptops, be they Windows or Apples, are not made for playing graphics intensive games. Slim bodies aren't able to cope. Eventually the heat will destroy the internal components. I have been tempted to play Grid on my MBP but just to see the stunning level of detail obtainable. I will leave on Grid just to demo for 5 minutes every 6 months or so. But the sensible rule is No intensive games.
br /Older games should be ok. But it doesn't make sense to spend so much money on such a machine and then waste it on games.
br /My only gripe is that MBP's should come with video adapters included in the box, or a coupon so buyers can pick them up free from a local istore.

Worth it. June 23, 2010 Skogkatt (San Francisco, Ca USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The MacBook expensive, no HDMI, could use two more usb outlets, but using it is another story. It just kicks butt!!!! Fast, beautiful graphics, and high-octane preformance. Set-up was easy, and the it sort of grows on you because of the ease of operation. And mind you, this is from someone who until recently never used a Mac at all. I still use a PC ( I also have a Samsung N-150 Netbook), but I find myself using the Mac more often. If you can afford it, GET IT.

br /PS: Get the AppleCare Protection Plan if you can.
Best Mac Notebook yet! June 23, 2010 John W. Craig (Colorado Springs, CO) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Our family has used Mac notebooks since the first 400 MHz Ti PowerBook, and this is the best one yet. The screen is the first reflective screen we have used, and, frankly, we were dubious about it because of the reflected images. It has turned out to not be a problem, even outdoors. The high contrast really makes photographs look beautiful. As delivered, this Mac runs quite hot, and has poor battery life. That is because many applications automatically switch on the NVIDIA graphics processor behind the scenes, and you can't prevent it from happening. I installed Cody Krieger's (free) gfxCardStatus, which lets you select either the Intel integrated graphics processor or the NVIDIA (or allow auto-switching). When you need maximum graphics performance, say for games, you select the NVIDIA with one click, but for everything else, run the Intel integrated GPU, and the Mac will run perfectly cool with 6-7 hours of battery life.
